cyathea-dregei tree fern
cyathea-dregei A medium-sized, very robust, cold hardy but slow growing tree fern with a thick trunk to 3 or rarely to 5 m tall that holds a spreading crown of somewhat twisted looking fronds. It is native to mountainous regions between 900 and 2000 m from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique to Madagascar. In cultivation it is best suited to warm or cool temperate climates such as preferred by other tree ferns like Dicksonia antarctica.
Please soak them in water and put in a plastic pot.
Sow the fern spores on the peat pellets.
Then put the plastic pot in a zip-lock bag - with a pot size of 6 cm , a zip-lock bag of size 12 x 17 cm is recommended . Fill in the zip-lock bag as much tap water with a few drops of universal fertilizer, so that after the absorption of the substrate a few mm of water remain on the bottom.
Location: on the windowsill or in a small greenhouse in partial shade, daytime temperatures at about 77 F, somewhat lower at night at 68-72 F.
Soon you will see a fine green layer on the surface. From the prothallia the small fern plants will develop with high humidity.
