This specie occurs in dense forest throughout Peninsular Malaysia and Polynesia. Its hallmark is bipinnate fronds that different from other tree-fern species, which has tripinnate or more. Apart from the different frond, it also has nearly black bullet stems supported by cinnamon slender trunk. Although getting over 5 meters, it grows slowly and may take over 10 years to reach that size. Need constant high humidity and moderate temperature to grow well.
