White or cream varieties of Protea repens, also known as the sugarbush or Cape honey flower, are available as plants, seeds, and dried flowers. These varieties can be challenging to grow but offer striking, nectar-filled blooms that attract birds.

Protea repens (creamy white): The wild species Protea repens naturally produces creamy white flowers

  • Sun and soil: Plant white Protea repens in full sun and very well-drained, acidic, and nutrient-poor soil. These plants are native to the South African fynbos, so their root systems are adapted to sandy or rocky soils and are susceptible to root rot in waterlogged conditions.
  • Phosphorus sensitivity: Avoid using fertilizers that contain high levels of phosphorus, as this will poison the plant. Use a native plant fertilizer or one formulated specifically for proteas.
  • Watering: Water the plant regularly during its first year to establish a strong root system. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and requires minimal water, but ensure it doesn't completely dry out.
  • Pruning: Remove spent flower heads after flowering to encourage new growth and maintain the plant's shape

Price is for 5 seeds
