A dwarf succulent native to desert areas in western South Africa and Namibia that forms a globose shoot of very densely packed, rounded, reddish to grayish green leaves. The variable flowers appear in a dense, terminal cluster on a short stalk. In cultivation it does best in drier, warm temperate climates. Crassula columnaris is adapted to sparse winter rains and is dormant in summer.
