Cunonia capensis
A gorgeous, small, evergreen tree with simple, leathery leaves that have serrated edges and that are reddish when young. The young branches and leafstalks are red. The small, white, scented flowers are held in elongated, bottlebrush-like inflorescences. Cunonia capensis is native to humid, costal areas in South Africa from the Cape Province to KwaZulu-Natal. It makes an excellent, fast growing ornamental tree, ideally suited for a range of warm temperate climates. Its high quality wood is used in South Africa.
