Popy ( American Legion )
The Red Poppy is known by many different names: Red Corn Poppy, American Legion Poppy and Flanders Poppy. Each one of these names refers to the same flower. The Red Poppy is native to southern Europe and has been associated with agriculture for many centuries. The name ‘Flanders Poppy’ refers to the aftermath of a famous WWI battle on Flanders Field where these poppies grew into abundance. This flower is also used in many countries as a symbol of remembrance for the casualties of wars fought throughout the 20th Century. To use the poppy as a cut flower the ends need to be either boiled in water or burned with a match, in order to curtail their naturally swift wilting pace.
